A Cookbook for Acid Reflux, GERD, LPR, Heartburn…Honestly, Everyone!

A Practical, Dietitian-Approved Resource for Everyday Cooking

The Easy 5-Ingredient Acid Reflux Cookbook is coined “Fuss-Free Recipes for Relief from GERD & LPR,” but from my point of view, this cookbook offers much more than that.

As I mentioned in my review of The Low-FODMAP Diet: Step by Step by Kate Scarlata and Dédé Wilson, I am very particular about the resources I recommend. When it comes to GERD and acid reflux, finding reliable, practical guidance can make a meaningful difference in daily symptom management—and this book delivers on that.

More Than Just Recipes

I would consider this a traditional cookbook in the sense that the majority of its 151 pages are filled with recipes—which, let’s be honest, is what most people are looking for.

But, as any good Registered Dietitian should do, Andy De Santis includes a strong educational foundation at the beginning of the book.

This section walks readers through:

  • What acid reflux is
  • The root causes and symptoms of GERD and LPR
  • The relationship between food and reflux

There is even a helpful section addressing a very common question:
“When should I see a doctor?”

For individuals navigating ongoing symptoms, this kind of guidance is incredibly valuable and reinforces when self-management may not be enough.

A Real-Life Solution to a Common Frustration

One of the most common things I hear from individuals with GERD or heartburn is how frustrating it can be to find meals and snacks that don’t trigger symptoms—without needing to completely overhaul their pantry.

And honestly, this is exactly why I recommend this cookbook.

It includes:

  • 11 practical pantry staples to keep on hand
  • A short list of kitchen tools that simplify preparation

What I really appreciate is that many of these staples are items people already have, such as olive oil and maple syrup. This makes the transition to GERD-friendly cooking feel far more approachable and sustainable.

What You’ll Find Inside

The cookbook is thoughtfully organized into sections that make it easy to navigate based on what you’re looking for.

Here’s a snapshot of the categories, along with a few standout recipes:

Breakfast

  • Ginger Crème Brûlée French Toast
  • Sage-Turkey Breakfast Sausage

Sides & Snacks

  • Easy Cornbread
  • Ginger-Cumin Kale Chips

Soups & Salads

  • Shaved Fennel & Red Apple Salad
  • Golden Mushroom Soup

Vegetarian & Vegan Mains

  • Grilled Portobello Mushroom Burger
  • Pasta with Cauliflower Sauce

Seafood & Poultry

  • Coconut-Ginger Shrimp
  • Crab Cakes

Pork, Beef, and Lamb

  • Skirt Steak with Blackberry Thyme Sauce
  • Ground Beef Stroganoff

Broths, Sauces, and Condiments

  • Greek Yogurt Herbed Salad Dressing
  • Cantaloupe Salsa

Desserts

  • Maple-Ginger Pudding
  • Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies

As always, taste is personal—but this gives a good idea of the variety and creativity within the book.

Built-In “Friendliness” for Special Diets

One of the standout features of this cookbook is the built-in labeling system throughout.

Recipes are clearly marked when they are:

  • Gluten-Free
  • Low FODMAP
  • Vegan
  • Vegetarian

This is incredibly helpful for individuals who are managing multiple dietary needs alongside GERD, which is often the case in real-world practice.

Additional Features That Add Real Value

Beyond the recipes, there are several features that make this cookbook especially practical:

Food Tables

  • Highlight foods that may trigger symptoms and why
  • Identify foods that can be enjoyed more freely

Lifestyle & Dietary Tips

  • Includes additional strategies for managing acid reflux
  • Offers insight beyond just food choices

Quick-Reference Tools

  • Measurement conversion guide for easy cooking

These additions help bridge the gap between education and application, which is something I always look for in a resource.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a cookbook that goes beyond just recipes—and actually helps you understand how to manage GERD and reflux in a practical, realistic way—this is a strong option.

It’s approachable, well-organized, and grounded in evidence-based nutrition guidance, making it a valuable resource for both beginners and those who have been managing symptoms for some time.
